Slideshow timing that does not feel wrong
The instinct is to give every photo the same duration. It reads better if you do not: a frame with text needs longer than a frame without, and the first frame needs longest of all because the viewer is still working out what they are looking at.
A workable starting point is 1.5 to 2 seconds for the opening frame, 1 second for photos, and 1.5 seconds for anything carrying a caption. Then watch it loop three times and cut whatever felt slow.
